Due to financial constraints and other common concerns in our educational system, our PD is moving from the "Sage on the Stage" to the in-house group of 4 or 5 teachers demonstration. It is okay for teachers to lead from weakness, instead of from strength. Look at our weakness, to understand what we need to understand where we need to go. Everyone needs to add their voice and everyone needs to put in--top down and bottom up. Gather work, study questions, gather people, etc. Whatever that next question is, it needs to center around community. It needs to be profound.

"Best Teaching Demo EVERRRR" or "The Bombed Lesson" The participants work with the coach through an inquiry demonstration. It hurts much less when it isn't your "best." We "fish bowled" the coaching for the participants in a pre-institute session. What led you to choose this lesson? What about this lesson is meaningful? What is the end goal for this lesson? At Crossroads & Chip River WP, we allowed the fellows to "see inside the mind" of the teacher presenting the demo. Conversations are based on inquiry. Final reflections are written and shared with coaches.

At OWP, they used Peer Coaches instead of Institute (Facilitator) Coaches. Crossroads used some Group Coaching this year.

TD purpose evolving? Maybe. But, could it be getting better?

What if you do want to present one of these TDs at a big conference? Question: how can I improve this? What can I do differently?

Do we have the answers? Or are we only asking more questions?

How can we lead? If the demonstration is what NWP sees us doing to lead, that is awfully narrow and constrictive. Looking at social justice and pedagogy, should we be proud of ....(lost my train of thought, I was listening and not typing sorry)

Is it approach? is it lesson? is it your burning question? What is it that the demonstration is putting forth? What is the hypothesis? Can we test it? What happened with the students that changed? How do we generate the hypothesis?

Research and a year or two later and writing would lead to a "Teacher Demonstration" - Peter's Version of Summer Institute

Inquiry - Burning question...what do you want to sink your teeth into?

I like everybody's take on all of this and all of the questions -
Whoot Whoot! Not just us wanting to get rid of all the "show and tell" presentations.
Wondering still how to present my TD at a big presentation
Good to hear that this is still a hot topic
Good hearing my concerns are still similar and valid, but vast and different
We are not frustrated, but we have taken care of our concerns with our coaching and we're satisfied.
Experienced coaches help out A LOT! And Lots of them!
